how to capture the result of a function in a string
I have a function that uses a language package to extract strings from a file. It's very long so I'm trying to simplify the extraction, but this is the best I can do.
When I run the code below it returns a string "1".
How can I capture the result of f(a) as a string so I can use it in the following line?

To compare three cancer-related risk models including the Framingham cancer risk equation (FRCRE), the American Cancer Society Cancer Risk Assessment Tool (ACS-CaRAT) and the Prognosis Research and Innovation in Diabetes (PRIDE) score in terms of prediction of cancer-specific mortality in a cohort of Iranian women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). A cross-sectional study was conducted on 600 women with T2DM aged 40-65 years in Iran. Risk scores for breast, colorectal, gastric, liver and ovarian cancers, and mortality, based on FRCRE, ACS-CaRAT and PRIDE scores, were calculated.
